For the last five days, an enormous pigeon has been visiting my yard. He is quite beautiful and LARGE. I tried to get some photos of him through the slats in the kitchen blinds.  Once I uploaded the photos to my computer, I realized that Jumbo (as I have affectionately named him) is banded.  I did a little online research and there is quite a registry for pigeons, but I don't know his complete number and I don't plan to capture him to find it out.

I guess my questions are: does he belong to someone? Will he be ok in the "wild"?

If there is anyone on the Vine who has suggestions, they would be much appreciated.

He is much prettier than the photo would suggest. His markings are actually an iridescent rose. I include a second edit of the photo to show Jumbo's size in relation to common house sparrows and a not so good shot through the blinds for a sense of his true coloring.
